"I'm happy that the race is almost over, but I'm also sad that it's coming to an end..." This morning's comment by Mathilde MAHE (D025-FRA) perfectly illustrates the mixed feelings in the pack of the HALF MARATHON DES SABLES FUERTEVENTURA. Memories tumble out when she thinks about this week - as if she had lived six months condensed into five days: "My best memory will definitely be the arrival of the long stage, at around 1 AM, with some members of the staff cheering us, my race partner Christelle and myself," Mathilde adds. Christelle GIRARD (D015-FRA) gushes: "I've loved this human adventure. It was magical to be all alone, in the middle of nowhere, disconnected from everything, including modern comfort. It's my first ultratrail. The MDS MAROC makes me dream, and this HALF MDS is a first step towards that dream. My best memory: during the long stage, watching the sun setting behind the mountains."
At the finish line, the dominating feeling is joy: eyes sparkle, tears are sometimes shed, like with Yolanda FERNANDEZ DEL CAMPO, today's female winner, who fell down on her knees and sobbed heavily after crossing the finish line. But Patrick BAUER was there to comfort her - and all the other competitors - and give them a Finisher's medal, symbolising everyone's quest for self-knowledge.
